August 2, 2022 - Tuesday
Today was a hard, but good, day. We went to Aunt MaryAnn's to visit and help dad work on clearing out Uncle George's things in the garage. The kids LOVED Aunt Mar and we really did have a nice time, but cleaning out the garage was gut-wrenching. The task was "get this garage cleared out". If there was something we wanted to take, fine, take it. If there was something that could actually be sold quickly, fine, keep it. Everything else? Trash. That garage was packed with stuff. We probably threw away THOUSANDS of dollars worth of stuff. So it was hard in that way. Throwing away good, valuable things is hard. It was also hard in that Uncle George had a purpose when he bought each and every one of those items. He was planning on a future where he would be using those things. It was heartbreaking to throw away all of that potential. His life ended much earlier than he (or any of us) expected. It was also just hard work type hard. It was HOT, sweaty, hard labor. Tools and such are heavy. We had to clear out the whole garage and throw everything that was being tossed into a trailer. Once the trailer was full, we drove out to the dumpster in the back lot and threw everything into the dumpster: doors, windows, tools, car parts, and on and on. Dad and Uncle Bill have been doing this for months and I know it's draining the life out of them. BUT. I'm glad we were there today. I'm so glad I got to see Aunt MaryAnn and spend that time with dad and Uncle Bill too.
After the work day was over, me and Ben came back, showered, and headed out for a date night. We went to Brio for their happy hour, which was delicious and wonderful, then went to see Thor: Love and Thunder, which kind of sucked. Even though it wasn't a great movie, I'm really glad we got to see it. Dad and MJ watched the kids for us and the evening was pretty much perfect. So thankful we got to have a few hours alone together!
