August 21, 2022 - Sunday


Today we had CT in the morning. I thought working in the nursery went great. Ben is really getting the hang of it (as opposed to the first day when he pretty much looked at me for directions constantly, as if he hadn't fathered four children already) and we had some super cute cuties in there. I don't normally take pictures of the children I'm watching, but I thought it would be ok since they're Anne's, Brit's, and Leslie's. It was just too sweet to not! 

After CT I did have my date with Jonas. We read for a while and talked through one of his biggest doubts/fears about Christianity. Low and behold, it's the same as mine! He feels like Heaven sounds too good to be true. I get it. I talked to him about how I go through my process of reaffirming why I believe and he seemed to like the way that I think about it. I also showed him Isaiah 53 (two birds: also hw assignment!) and had him read it. I asked him who it sounded like and he said Jesus. When I told him it was written more than a thousand years before Jesus was born, his mind was blown. I told him that it is things like this that help me believe that what the Bible says is true. And if the Bible is true, then it's natural to believe in Heaven too. So hard to hold onto things that we have no evidence of sometimes! I want to find some apologetics or Heaven books that are more Jonas's speed. After reading, we worked on sanding and priming his new mirror. He thinks he's going to paint it with a Splatoon theme. It should be cool! 

Jordan came over for dinner and we had lots of great convo, as always. He's a good guy and I feel really sad that he's kind of a lost guy. He's not really tethered to our group in any way. He's not reading with anyone and I know he feels like an outsider among us. There are only 3 other single guys in the group and he doesn't really relate to them. I talked to him about HC last night and he said he's planning to stay, but when I asked why he kind of said that it was just because he sticks with his decisions. I think him and Ben like each other a lot. Ben's going to ask him if he wants to go bowling sometime. :)

What a day! It literally rained from start to finish, but we packed as much into it as we possibly could! We had a great time visiting and hanging out. We had a fire and lots of great meals *brushes shoulder off*. The kids played well together and, as far as I know, there wasn't any drama! It was a bit exhausting, but I'm so glad that this retreat went well. Last year's was a bit of a bomb, with all the childcare drama happening behind the scenes. I feel like last year's retreat was a pre-cursor to our deciding to move away. Not that they actually had anything to do with one another, but they happened in such close succession that they seem related in retrospect. I drank a bit too much tonight and had a really fun time singing songs, while Tony played the guitar. Man, I wish I had talent with instruments!

This is my favorite picture from the whole shoot!! I love it.  We went to CT this morning and I actually got to sit in on the teaching! Woo! It feels like that doesn't happen very often. We hung out in the cafe with friends for a little bit, then went to Chipotle for lunch on the way home.  We spent most of the day just relaxing! I started a photo book for our Maine vaca in September, and tried to get caught up with some other stuff, but it was mostly just a chill day. Jonas and Clem went to group and we stayed home, chillin'. Ben and I got in the hot tub with Ruby and Ollie for a little while, which was fun. It was snowing while we were in there!

November 24, 2025 - Monday

Today was a very rough day for me. It's not like everything went wrong, I just really struggled to manage my emotions. I had to run out, first thing, to get my pick-up order because there were things in it that we needed for breakfast. Then, somehow, we didn't get school started until almost 9:30. I started with Ruby and Ollie, as usual, and decided to check in with Ollie while I was reading. Okay, related side note, Ruby can't stand it when I ask Ollie questions and not her. But the thing is, Ruby remembers EVERYTHING she hears. She learns super well by just plain old listening. If I ask her questions, she answers them correctly and I never get to gauge whether or not Ollie is learning. She also always blurts out answers because she's so afraid I won't give her an opportunity to show us all how much she is learning. And I get it! She wants praise and to show me that she's a good student and she's learning. I understand. But, because of her constant eagernes...
