July 3, 2025 - Thursday
I did not feel ready to start the floors yet today, so I worked on a bunch of other small things. I put up the curtain rod, finished touching up the paint on their bunk bed, did a Home Depot run for light bulbs and electrical stuff, and washed all of the kid's blankets and sheets so I could make their beds nice and neat (for once). I'll have no excuse to hold off on the floor anymore tomorrow. 😅
We had plans to watch the fireworks with the Shauls in Ben's office tonight and then have a cookout with them tomorrow, but I really did not want to do that. Ben got kind of forced into inviting them to the office when Travis put him on the spot about it and I actually did want to have the cookout with them. BUT Ben and Ruby have been feeling sick. Ruby had a fever and terrible headache a couple of days this week and has a cough and a stuffy nose now. Ben has a sore throat and a splitting headache today. I cancelled the cookout for tomorrow, but said they could still feel free to come watch the fireworks because I didn't want to ruin that plan for them. I know they were excited to bring the girls out. After I cancelled for tomorrow though, they cancelled for tonight too. I feel bad but also liberated. I hate when I'm in this mood! Cannot wait for my period to be over so I can get back to being a better version of me. 😟
The fireworks were amazing! We got to visit with the Johansons for a few minutes, which was nice. We had a weird interaction with some of the people in the admin area outside of Ben's office who were there to watch though. So, here's how it went. We greeted the people who were there when we got there, and they were really friendly and quiet - there were like 8 of them. Then the Johansons visited and as they were walking out the door, I was closing it behind them because we didn't want a bunch of randos in Ben's office. We just wanted the time to ourselves, selfishly. WELL, I'm closing the door, and a hand pushes it back open, and an older man and woman come walking in. They start chit chatting with us and asked if we were partying in here and I told the lady that this is my husband's office, and we just brought the kids up for a quiet evening watching the fireworks. Meanwhile, the guy is over talking to Ben (who just so happens to be his boss's, boss's, boss) and starts dropping the f-bomb in front of the girls (I was unaware at the time). Ben, I guess, iced him out with a look and an unfriendly response, and the guy motioned to his wife to get out of the office. I said goodnight and go to close the door, and I hear him laugh to the other people and say, "Yeah, shut that door!" It was so awkward. We ended up leaving before the finale so that we could avoid the elevator and traffic issues that we encountered last time. TBH, I was also not enthusiastic about the idea of waiting for the elevator with the people that were being rude so...we also got to avoid that.
