Day 283 of my 365 Photo Journal

Well, tomorrow is our last day in Maine and it is bittersweet. The bitter: knowing I won’t be in Maine for another year or two. The sweet: being back in my own house, in my own bed, with my own routine. Also, I’m feeling sick, which makes me just want to get home. My throat started hurting yesterday and today it feels much worse. I’m also just completely exhausted and I was really irritable today (unfairly, as always).

We went up to Camden this morning and visited Mt. Battie. We were really excited to go up there, but the day was so foggy that we had no view whatsoever. The castle was fun though and, despite the cost, I don’t regret getting up there this year. After that, we went into town and did a little shopping. The restaurant we wanted to visit wasn’t open yet, so we ended up coming back here for lunch. Ben and I are both feeling a little frustrated that we haven’t had a single good meal out since we got here. Eating out is usually a big part of our vacations, but we’ve been cooking every day instead!

In the afternoon, I did tie dying with the kids. It was humid and sweaty and the dye was rolling off of most of our fabric, especially the new ones and the ones that had been washed with fabric softener. It was a huge waste of the dye and made the process frustrating for the kids AND for me. I ended up snapping at (YELLING AT) Ben when he voiced one of his many concerns about the project and now we’re doing the silent, but really, I’m not mad (but actually you are) thing. SO FUN.

Edited to add: Ben and I are fine. I sincerely apologized for yelling at him. It was humiliating for both of us and I desperately wish I was better at controlling my temper. Thankfully, he always has more grace to give me and he forgave me.
