Well, our good night last night turned into a nightmare.
Ollie woke up when we came up to bed and NEVER WENT BACK TO SLEEP. At least not
for a really, really long time. We were concerned about all three of us sharing
a room. Ollie is not a flexible sleeper and we were really worried that this
kind of thing would happen. Of course, even in our worst fears, Ollie still
went to sleep by midnight or so. No. No, no, no. Ollie was awake until after
3am. Ben and I were both at the point of tears by then, just so worried about
what our day would look like having had barely any sleep ourselves and having
to drag a toddler around everywhere, who also got barely any sleep. I also feel like it's worth mentioning that all three of us were sharing a double bed. 😬 We were up
around 7:30 for the day and boy, was it miserable. I felt like garbage. Like a
bad hangover, but maybe even a little worse. Ben felt decent, somehow. Just
tired. Ollie was a bit of a mess.
We barely did anything today because of that. We did go to
the rehab facility so Ben could go in and visit his mom. It didn’t go great.
She is obviously doing much better than she was, but she’s still so frail and
sick seeming. She can’t really move around on her own still and barely eats.
She’s desperate to get out of there, but who knows when or how she will manage
it.
Later, after a 2 hour nap for me and Ollie, we had dinner
with Evie out in the sweltering, awful heat. She has a cold, so we didn’t want
to be indoors at her house and potentially catch it. Hence, the awful,
suffocating heat. It was truly horrible. Evie’s food was delicious and the
visit was fine (other than her running really late, of course), but it was
pretty short. There was a big storm that came in and all the kids, well all of
us, really, went out into it a little. The kids were all soaked through.
After coming back to Ali’s we made an early night of it. We
got the car packed up as much as we could the day before leaving and I went to
bed with Ollie at 7:30pm. Not a great day, but I’m still grateful for the time
we got with family that we don’t get to see often.
