September 3, 2023 - Sunday
I was really anxious about this night in Marietta, but today turned out to be pretty good. I headed out of church right around 11 and we drove home to grab Baba, rather than going straight to Ben's parents, as planned. So, immediately Ben was on edge. We got an hour late start, but he did relax a little after an hour or so on the road.
When we got there, things were a little awkward. Dennis was being his usual grumpy-ish self, but seemed to be on his best behavior. Hazel was acting weird and seemed super angry that I decided to homeschool this year. But once we got past all of the catching up and Hazel had a glass of wine, things got better. Dinner went well and we ate inside, against Hazel's wishes, of course. After she and I chatted for a bit, we decided to take the kids to the county fair without the guys, who would have been dead weights, just dragging us down and sucking the fun out of everything.
We ended up having a blast! Seeing all of the animals was probably the best part. They were all at their very cleanest and best presentation, since they were prepped for competition at the fair. Every single ride was free with admission to the fair, which was pretty amazing. The girls got on at least 6 rides and I even went on the slide with Ollie! Jonas was feeling a little anxious about the crowds and noise, so Hazel took him around to play some games and then he went on the slide with me too. I was really glad for the impulsive decision to go out for the evening. :)
