April 22, 2023 - Saturday


It was a bit of a hectic day! Good, but busy. I went to the grocery store as soon as I woke up so I could get ingredients for side dishes for dinner with the Albinos tonight. I made mac n cheese, Asian ramen salad, deviled eggs, chocolate chip cookies, and a green salad. It all turned out really good, actually. I was starving and SO grumpy by the time I got home from the store...only to turn around and keep getting prepped for Dennis and Hazel to get here!

I had about 20 minutes of free time before they arrived and then spent a couple of hours talking and visiting with them. It went really well. We usually have at least a bit of attitude from Denn, but not this time. He was in a great mood and we had a really nice, brief visit. It's a little sad to think that we used to go there for the weekend every other month or so, and now we're down to like two visits a year. We've just gotten so busy over the years though. Weekends aren't free the way they used to be and when we do have a totally open weekend, we often choose to use it doing projects around the house. Time has become so fleeting and precious! It didn't used to feel that way when we were younger. 

After they left we had about an hour and a half before we needed to be at the neighbors. Ben ran out to buy wood so that we can finish our deck (woohoo!!!) and I finished up all of the food for dinner. We headed over there and had a great time. I love that they don't put up a lot of pretenses. The house is messy, the dog was vomiting everywhere (WHY??), they had no napkins, or paper towels, or even hand towels! They just are who they are and it's a trait that I really value in a friend. If you don't pretend, I don't have to pretend! We can all just be doing our best. The girls have such a blast together too. Well, honestly, they act more like cousins or something. There's a lot of crying and fighting, but also a lot of fun. No indifference towards one another though. 😅

Ben and I are going back for a game night tonight. I think it'll be fun! Last night, me and Ben got into the hot tub and got down to the nitty gritty about my 40th birthday. We ARE going to have a party, here, and we ARE going to invite the whole homechurch + some. We're doing it late in the evening, so it's going to be more of a no kids kind of deal, but we're just going to invite everyone I'm friends with. I have no idea how many people will actually show up, but I'm hoping it'll be enough that I don't end up feeling like a shithead with no friends. 😐

What a day! It literally rained from start to finish, but we packed as much into it as we possibly could! We had a great time visiting and hanging out. We had a fire and lots of great meals *brushes shoulder off*. The kids played well together and, as far as I know, there wasn't any drama! It was a bit exhausting, but I'm so glad that this retreat went well. Last year's was a bit of a bomb, with all the childcare drama happening behind the scenes. I feel like last year's retreat was a pre-cursor to our deciding to move away. Not that they actually had anything to do with one another, but they happened in such close succession that they seem related in retrospect. I drank a bit too much tonight and had a really fun time singing songs, while Tony played the guitar. Man, I wish I had talent with instruments!

November 9, 2025 - Sunday

This is my favorite picture from the whole shoot!! I love it.  We went to CT this morning and I actually got to sit in on the teaching! Woo! It feels like that doesn't happen very often. We hung out in the cafe with friends for a little bit, then went to Chipotle for lunch on the way home.  We spent most of the day just relaxing! I started a photo book for our Maine vaca in September, and tried to get caught up with some other stuff, but it was mostly just a chill day. Jonas and Clem went to group and we stayed home, chillin'. Ben and I got in the hot tub with Ruby and Ollie for a little while, which was fun. It was snowing while we were in there!

November 24, 2025 - Monday

Today was a very rough day for me. It's not like everything went wrong, I just really struggled to manage my emotions. I had to run out, first thing, to get my pick-up order because there were things in it that we needed for breakfast. Then, somehow, we didn't get school started until almost 9:30. I started with Ruby and Ollie, as usual, and decided to check in with Ollie while I was reading. Okay, related side note, Ruby can't stand it when I ask Ollie questions and not her. But the thing is, Ruby remembers EVERYTHING she hears. She learns super well by just plain old listening. If I ask her questions, she answers them correctly and I never get to gauge whether or not Ollie is learning. She also always blurts out answers because she's so afraid I won't give her an opportunity to show us all how much she is learning. And I get it! She wants praise and to show me that she's a good student and she's learning. I understand. But, because of her constant eagernes...
