February 26, 2024 - Monday



I feel like I started today off on the wrong foot. I really wanted to chill, drink my tea, and read a book for a bit before we headed out, but the rest of the family had different plans, of course. Thankfully, Ben took the kids to the arcade alone for a bit while I did those things. They had a great time and I felt busy and rushed. But that's the way it is when you're on vacation with kids! 

After they got back, we headed to Colonial Williamsburg for about four hours. We did some of the things we didn't get to do the yesterday, but honestly, walking around town just takes SO LONG. It doesn't seem like it's going to, but next thing you know, it's been 30 minutes and you still haven't made it to the place you intended to go. We went to a program where Native Americans tell you a story from their tribe and Ben and I were both rolling our eyes when we showed up, because these were obviously two white girls. However, they were both registered members of different tribes, which was very surprising: one from VA and one from SD. Ollie decided she had to go to the bathroom right at the beginning of the first story, so I missed half of it, but it was pretty cool. We also went to a musket demonstration that was fun and funny. The poor soldier misfired like 6 times while we were all watching. :) We walked all the way down to the art museum, which was AWESOME, but I was so fed up with the kids' whining and complaining by that point that we only stayed there for 20 minutes and then headed back to the condo. 

Once we got back, we were locked out! There was some kind of issue where they checked us out this morning instead of tomorrow and it took them a little while to figure it out. I got extremely angry about it. I know, ridiculous. It was just 15 minutes of inconvenience. But I think I was just so frustrated and annoyed already and all I wanted to do was chill out for a little while. Anyway. Ben and the kids all got changed and headed straight to the pool and I made myself a cup of tea and then headed over to read and watch them. Then, we went out to a delicious dinner at a little Italian restaurant nearby. So good! And then we came back and played a fun/awful game of mini golf. The fun part is that I was on FIRE! haha Me, Ben, and Jonas were just about tied the whole time. The awful part is that Ollie was throwing herself on the ground crying from hole 3 on. Like, wailing, screeching, hiding in the bushes, angry because she wasn't good at golf yet. That definitely took away from an otherwise very fun time. 

Tonight was just pack up! We're leaving early tomorrow, per Ben's request. He is the driver, so he gets his way.

What a day! It literally rained from start to finish, but we packed as much into it as we possibly could! We had a great time visiting and hanging out. We had a fire and lots of great meals *brushes shoulder off*. The kids played well together and, as far as I know, there wasn't any drama! It was a bit exhausting, but I'm so glad that this retreat went well. Last year's was a bit of a bomb, with all the childcare drama happening behind the scenes. I feel like last year's retreat was a pre-cursor to our deciding to move away. Not that they actually had anything to do with one another, but they happened in such close succession that they seem related in retrospect. I drank a bit too much tonight and had a really fun time singing songs, while Tony played the guitar. Man, I wish I had talent with instruments!

November 9, 2025 - Sunday

This is my favorite picture from the whole shoot!! I love it.  We went to CT this morning and I actually got to sit in on the teaching! Woo! It feels like that doesn't happen very often. We hung out in the cafe with friends for a little bit, then went to Chipotle for lunch on the way home.  We spent most of the day just relaxing! I started a photo book for our Maine vaca in September, and tried to get caught up with some other stuff, but it was mostly just a chill day. Jonas and Clem went to group and we stayed home, chillin'. Ben and I got in the hot tub with Ruby and Ollie for a little while, which was fun. It was snowing while we were in there!

November 24, 2025 - Monday

Today was a very rough day for me. It's not like everything went wrong, I just really struggled to manage my emotions. I had to run out, first thing, to get my pick-up order because there were things in it that we needed for breakfast. Then, somehow, we didn't get school started until almost 9:30. I started with Ruby and Ollie, as usual, and decided to check in with Ollie while I was reading. Okay, related side note, Ruby can't stand it when I ask Ollie questions and not her. But the thing is, Ruby remembers EVERYTHING she hears. She learns super well by just plain old listening. If I ask her questions, she answers them correctly and I never get to gauge whether or not Ollie is learning. She also always blurts out answers because she's so afraid I won't give her an opportunity to show us all how much she is learning. And I get it! She wants praise and to show me that she's a good student and she's learning. I understand. But, because of her constant eagernes...
