January 26, 2024 - Friday
My friend Jillian texted me today and asked if she and a few others could meet in one of the Oasis classrooms on Sunday mornings, before CT, for some singing and worship because the church wouldn't allow them to use the cafe or the auditorium. I told her, of course, yes, but I wonder if this is something I might lose my job over. If it is, then so be it. Here's the thing. I get very anti-Christian music/corporeal worship vibes from our church, but when you ask anyone straight out, they tell you that it is a wonderful thing! Yet, they can't seem to find a space for anyone to do it. It's frustrating to me. So, maybe I'll get in trouble, or they'll be shut down, or whatever, but if people are permitted to use those spaces for group prayer (which they are), then they should be allowed to use them for group praise and worship.
Today has been...tough so far. I hung out with Jenny this morning, which was fun, but then Ruby had a meltdown that lasted for almost an hour. I had to sit with her and do her work with her side by side, rather than zooming through everyone's schooling. I didn't even get to finish hers up! Alas, that's what homeschooling is about, right? If Ruby's having a hard day, I can sit with her and help her through it, rather than having to rush around and get all the other kid's things done. We can catch up later. That's tough to do in the moment, but healthier for us all. I think it's good for the kids to know that if they're struggling with something, we can always make the time to sit together and figure it out.
I got work done, I showered, I packed, I checked the hot tub, and I just have a few more things I want to get done before I head out for the retreat. Hopefully I'll take some pictures and finish updating this blog tomorrow!
