October 28, 2024 - Monday
I was in a very grumpy mood today. I got my stupid period and it was a Monday. PLUS, I knew pumpkin carving was going to be in the evening. I've been dreading it. We got school done pretty easily, although I raised my voice once or twice, which I don't usually do anymore. After school, I had to take all of the kids to the doctor for Jonas's annual physical. I messaged two local friends to see if either of them could watch the girls for an hour, but neither could, and I didn't want to reach out to anyone far away and inconvenience myself with the drive, so I just took them all. It was fine. I threatened to cancel pumpkin carving if they didn't behave, so they behaved perfectly! I had to leave them out in the waiting room alone during Jonas's physical, but they did well.
We grabbed a pickup from Target on the way home and I got Jonas some Starbucks for being a big, brave boy for his shots. 😅 We got home and Ben arrived just a couple of minutes after us. He cooked some rice and green beans to go with our leftover hot dogs and that was our gourmet dinner for the evening. Then, the pumpkins. I just dread doing them so much. I end up scraping out three pumpkins, usually, and sorting seeds from all of them, while the little ones exclaim about how yucky the whole thing is. They're usually happy about the yuckiness, so it's not genuine complaining. I'm just a grump. Anyway, I only had to scrape out my and Ollie's pumpkins. She tried really hard to get her own seeds out, but it was really tough for her. It was her first year actually carving and not painting! I think she did awesome and used her carving knife really carefully. Everyone was pretty satisfied with the way their pumpkins turned out, except Jonas was unhappy that a few of his details don't look the way he imagined they would. It ended up not being a bad time. I did have to wash dishes and sort/wash/roast seeds for a couple of hours afterwards, but that wasn't even as much of a hassle as I remembered it being. Hopefully, I can be a little more excited about it next year so that I'm not as much of a drag on my family.
