April 26, 2024 - Friday
Today was not a bad day. I decided to cancel school, since it was such a busy week prepping for the academic fair and because I still have so much to do to get the garden ready. I think it was a good choice! Jenny came over in the morning and then the kids played outside for hours and hours and hours. I had to go to Home Depot to get some more supplies and it was a real poop-fest. It was really hard to get all of the things I needed alone, simply logistically. I needed two carts, but I'm just one person, so I had to check out twice. And each time, the cashier was weird and made things awkward. I had to get a wheelbarrow unlocked and it took no less than 15 minutes for someone to come out, unlock it, and help me to my car with it. I would have preferred to just do it alone. Then, as I'm loading up the van with lumber, a man from a nearby vehicle jumped out to help and, while I appreciate his help, I didn't have that much to load, and it felt unnecessary. Still, always good to see chivalry isn't completely dead!
I got home and read/relaxed for a little while, worked outside for a little while, and then got showered and dressed for dinner with Mark and Rachel. Because RIGHT after I got home from volleyball with Jonas, we'd have to turn around and leave for dinner. I didn't leave enough time for makeup. :( Volleyball was fine though. It was a warm, sunny day and I brought my book and even had enough time to get a chai latte on the way there. Jonas had a good time and so did I! As predicted, we had to leave immediately after I got Jonas home, but dinner was delicious and fun. I'm glad we did it and I hope we can do it more often. However, on the way home, Ben exclaims to me, "Read the room, babe! You made everyone SO uncomfortable! You just cannot stop yourself from saying anything that's on your mind, even if everyone around you is cringing." And I'm thinking back like, 'Huh? I don't remember anyone looking uncomfortable except for Ben. I try hard to read the room while I'm talking!' So I commented that I thought he was being a little harsh and maybe he was the only one uncomfortable. But, I have to say, it pretty much ruined my mood for the evening. I thought everything went well and we were all having fun, but it turns out I was making it awkward for everyone around me, according to Ben. He apologized later and said that it's likely it was just him who was uncomfortable, but the damage was done. He's a drag sometimes.
