December 31, 2024 - Tuesday

It's New Year's Eve and I feel like I'm ready to get this new year started strong! Granted, I'm not feeling strong today, or patient, or like a good person at all, but what is NYE if not the perfect opportunity to envision a better version of yourself crawling out of the carcass of the old you?

Before writing my New Year's resolutions tomorrow, I wanted to review my resolutions from last year. Here's what they were:

  • Go outside more.
  • Try more new things.
  • Get my body more active than it has been.
  • Be more connected to God.
  • I want to be more intentional with my time, my energy, and my resources.
I think that I actually went outside less and tried less new things. IDK. I guess we went to some concerts and stuff like that. Maybe the new things category is about even? I think that the way I used my time did not change. I WAS more active in 2024 though! I actually ran quite a bit for a couple of months, which was a big deal for me. And, sadly, I do not feel more connected to God. I ended up having a lot of spiritual confusion and inconsistency, which was a bummer. Anyway, I don't look at these goals being unrealized as a failure. They were hopes for myself, but who can know on January 1st what the year will actually bring? I'm excited that I kind of did one of the things!

We're spending the evening as a family. It's just one very, very long, extended day. We played lots of games and watched the NYE special on tv. We also spent an hour outside with the Albinos. I guess Ashley brought the girls back to the house for the holiday, so they could stay up and potentially hang out with our kids. They bought some fireworks, sparklers, and those pop thingies that everyone got to enjoy. It was a bit awkward! Ashley seemed pretty upset, so I'm guessing things weren't going great. But the kids didn't notice and all had a great time playing outside late at night! They're so excited to be staying up until midnight! It's already 11:20 and it seems like we'll all make it. I, for one, cannot wait to be asleep.

ETA: Ruby fell asleep right after I wrote this. We woke her up to ring in the new year and then she went immediately back to sleep!
