Wah! It's time to get ready to head back home. It's sad that nearly the whole last day of the trip gets consumed with prep for the drive home. Maybe if we had more space in the car, that wouldn't be the case? But we need every single inch of space, so I have to pack really carefully. Then, of course, we have to clean the house so that it's spotless before we leave. I guess the homeowner only hires the cleaner to do the bathrooms and kitchen, so the rest is up to us. And, really, we have to do the bathrooms and kitchen too, we just don't have to scrub them down, just make sure they seem clean. It's a really annoying part of renting this house out. We have to dispose of our own trash, bring our own towels and sheets, and we have to clean the house before we leave. It's extra complicated, knowing we have a 16-hour drive ahead of us and knowing we're leaving before dawn the day of checkout. Alas, it is what it is and this is why we get such a good deal on the place.
We visited the Breakwater today, but, for the first time that I can remember, we didn't go all the way to the end. I think Ben was feeling the same as me, that we had way too much to do, and it just made us want to hurry the whole thing up. It was also a really sunny, warm, and busy day there, making it a lot less fun for me and him. The kids never seem to notice stuff like that! But it bothers both of us parents. So, we did about a third of it, then went to Wasses for hot dogs. Of course, I couldn't eat the dogs, but everyone who got them liked them! They did have some really good cheese fries though. We went into Rockland for a little shopping and got some cool souvenirs, then went to the alpaca farm to visit the alpacas and fawn over all of the super soft stuffies she makes with her alpaca wool. Finally, we got home and I worked on packing for a few hours.
We met Evie and JJ at Sea Hag Ciders for a tasting in the evening and I'm so glad we went. I wasn't sure we were going to make it, but it was a great time! We had a lot of fun and the cider was delicious. Definitely a spot I want to visit again next year!
I think we're all prepped and ready to go in the morning. We'll just have to strip all the beds, finish packing toiletries, get changed, pack up the trunk with our remaining bags, and get on the road. Whew!
