September 8, 2025 - Monday
Today was a near-perfect day. The weather was fantastic, we had lots of relaxation and time on the beach, and we got to be with family. All-in-all, a wonderful day. This morning we just hung out, waited for the tide to come in, took pictures, and looked for rocks and hermit crabs. We got everyone showered and ready to leave the house around 1 to meet dad and MJ in Camden, then hung out in town, shopping, and getting super annoyed about how expensive everything was for an hour or two. The kids spent a bunch of their allowances and all I got myself was a single piece of fudge!
We headed to Blueberry Hill afterwards for a little hike to see the views of Camden and the ocean. It was beautiful and just the perfect day for it. The weather was cool and the hike was gorgeous. The kids seemed to enjoy getting out into nature for a bit and having the freedom to run around. MJ didn't quite make it up the hill, but we took Sadie and she rested.
After the hike, we headed to dinner at our favorite place here, McLoon's! Sadly, they aren't making our favorite dish this year and it really soured Ben's mood. That's what he was looking forward to, more than anything else today. He was very grumpy while we were at the restaurant, but the rest of us enjoyed our meals and the company! I got a lobster roll AND lobster stew, which basically made Ben's eyes pop out of his head because of the expense. And it was a lot. I know. But dang! How often do I eat lobster! Maybe it was wrong, I honestly don't know. But I did it and I freaking enjoyed it. At least one of us got to enjoy dinner! We got ice cream for the kiddos and split a root beer float between us. Ben chilled out by the end and we ended dinner in a good place.
We spent an hour on the beach once we got back to the house, enjoying the sunset and the low tide together, searching for cool rocks and just loving the ocean breeze. It was so gorgeous out there tonight and the kids had so much fun. I was really glad MJ made it down onto the rocks! It's not easy for her to climb down there anymore. Her and dad headed out shortly after the sun went down and Evie and JJ relaxed in their room. I took a shower and then read for a bit. A little later, JJ took Evie outside and proposed to her!!! She is SO excited and a little overwhelmed. Ben asked me what I'm thinking, but right now, I'm just thinking that I'm happy for her and I'm happy I got to be here tonight. It was very cool to feel like I was a little bit part of something big in her life. I'm just going to be praying and praying for them! Relationships get hard and sometimes you just have to power through it until you get to better times. That isn't easy and it's not something Evie's ever done before. But, for now, I'm just happy. :)
