November 7, 2025 - Friday

I thought today was supposed to be relaxing! *sigh* We went to the kids' new art class at 10:15am on this rainy Friday. We were expecting a young person who had just finished art school. In fact, it was a very old, severe-looking woman who had just finished art school! The kids all went into the dining room to learn, while the moms all sat in the living room. About halfway through, Allie came and told me that Ruby was inconsolably crying. I went in and got her and we sat in the hallway for 20 minutes while she completely fell apart because of the teacher's expectations, and hard to understand instructions, and the homework, and the writing, and on and on. It was the perfect reminder for why we decided to homeschool her. It's just too much pressure for her! I tried to convince her that she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do, but she just couldn't let go of the feeling that the teacher wouldn't like her and would be super disappointed in her. I don't know if I'll continue having her in the class. We'll see.

Afterwards, we headed downtown to Ben's job for lunch. I had some back and forth with people doing Marketplace pickups and had to stop home after the art class to put things out on the porch. We had pizza with Ben, but I was so distracted by all the Marketplace messages that Ben felt neglected and frustrated with me. Once we got back home, we only had a short amount of time to get the house clean for dinner tonight before I had to get Jonas to Anne's house for Seth's birthday party. We all angry-cleaned for a while, then I ran out with Jonas to the store for a gift and over to Anne's. Ben came home early, so Clem was only babysitting the girls for about 15 minutes, thankfully.

Ben started dinner while I was out and I finished once I got home. We realized that we forgot to get any toppings for the burgers and also forgot hotdog buns. *face palm* Thankfully, the Hawthornes are not picky eaters! We had a great night hanging out with them. We feel super comfortable with them and had lots of laughs.
