May 27, 2026 - Wednesday
Well, we decided today that we ARE going to leave early. It just felt really overwhelming to consider getting home from SC Saturday afternoon, then getting Jonas to EPIC drop-off at 5am Sunday, then Ben (and maybe me and the girls) driving to Marietta right afterward. It gave us no time at home to get ourselves situated before leaving, then getting back to regular life on Monday morning. AND we have the drive to DE for Evie’s wedding next weekend! It’s just a lot. I need to find a dress to wear to that.
We broke the news to the kids today and here were their responses: Jonas was grateful because he’s been stressed about being ready for EPIC, Clem cried her eyes out but was more upset about potentially having to go to Marietta on Sunday than she was about leaving early, Ruby was happy because she misses her friends and her house, and Ollie was sad but said she understood. Now that the news is broken, we can wrap our minds around what that means for us! I’m excited that we won’t be driving all day on our wedding anniversary and will actually be able to go on a date!! Woohoo! We had big plans for the Myrtle Beach boardwalk today. We left the house around 9:45 and got there around 10:10am. Ben was expecting crowds, but as his wife foretold, it was literally deserted. Also, the boardwalk was not anything like what we were expecting. It was also hot as Hades (as I also foretold) and Ben was freaking out about how hot and sweaty he was. After an hour of shopping and eating French fries, we got out of dodge. And we won’t be going back! BUT on the way home, we stopped at Gretel’s Candy Shop and that was AMAZING!!! We spent 45 minutes looking at candy and choosing the perfect selections. That might have been the best stop of the trip so far! When we got home, we headed down to the pool for a little while, where I added to my miserable sunburn. Around 2:30, we came back up to the condo and it was just in time because it started pouring! I love it when it rains.
